A tiny bird does its best to be magnificently menacing, in the process, trying to prove fluffy flying dragons do exist – meet the great eared nightjar!

IF YOU ARE A FAN OF FANTASY MOVIES YOU MIGHT BE OVERJOYED TO LEARN THAT ANIMALS THAT LOOK DRAGONS DO EXIST!
Luckily for us, there is a creature that appears to come right out of a fantasy movie in the form of a bird, and best of all, it is very much real!

Meet the Great-Eared Nightjar

The great eared nightjar (Lyncornis macrotis) is found living in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. A nocturnal bird, they flit through the forest under the cover of darkness. Apart from their unique appearance, another unique thing they do is build their nest on the forest floor. This allows their chicks to use their well-camouflaged appearance amongst all the dried leaves.

The great-eared nightjar is the largest species in the family in terms of length, which can range from 31 to 41 cm (12 to 16 in).

Males weigh an average of 131 g (4.6 oz) and females weigh an average of 151 g (5.3 oz), looking very similar in appearance.

This bird could easily have flown right out of a Harry Potter movie, bringing to life the fantasy world many of us love. Although there are other species of nightjar, none look quite as unique as the great-eared ones. This bird quite simply is one of a kind.

Their subtle brown hues enable them to blend with their surroundings in perfect harmony and their beady eyes just add to their adorableness.
