Australia’s Fascinating Starfish Gains Popularity for its Distinctive Appearance

The Choriaster Granulatus, a species of starfish, is currently facing a threat to its habitat due to coral bleaching. Unfortunately, despite this serious issue, inappropriate jokes about the creature have circulated on the internet.

This particular starfish, scientifically known as Choriaster Granulatus, has gained a nickname due to its resemblance to certain anatomical features. Some internet users have referred to it as “C**ktopus” and even labeled it as a “pornstar” due to the similarity of its five arms to certain male attributes.

The Choriaster Granulatus typically grows to a diameter of about 27cm and is found in limited regions across the globe, including East Africa, the Great Barrier Reef, the Red Sea, and Vanuatu.

However, the destruction of its habitat caused by ocean acidification and coral bleaching poses a significant threat to this species.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, some internet users continue to make jokes about the creature’s appearance. These remarks include comparisons to male anatomy and references to inappropriate objects.

Several nicknames have emerged, such as “Cktopus,” “Starck,” and “Urethrafish.” Additionally, some individuals have drawn comparisons between the starfish and Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants.

It is important to note that the Choriaster Granulatus primarily feeds on algae, detritus, and deceased organisms. It faces predation from the sea snail Triton’s trumpet and also consumes various small invertebrates and coral polyps. The starfish can be identified by its five distinct large, short, and thick conical arms. Typically, it is pale pink in color with clusters of small brown papillae located in the central part of its body.

While the Choriaster Granulatus has not been observed in the UK, it is crucial to discourage the use of derogatory nicknames like “C**ktopus,” as seen in discussions on Reddit, and promote respectful and responsible discussions about this species.
